"There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children."
Nelson Mandela, Former President of South Africa
Six years later and still going strong. This year we accomplished so much. The website is up and running and updated every 3 months. A new sport of golf is also now on board. The battle for another field in Ocean View was our biggest challenge this year as we attended so many meetings to try and meet with the correct people within the COCT to assist with land. We are in the process of submitting our long term lease so that we can go ahead and build our baseball field and resource centre on the sportsfield in Ocean View. The resource centre will be our hub from where all services will run. This is our dream come true. It will comprise of various rooms like career guidance centre, counselling room a board room for meetings and presentations. It will also be manned by a full time receptionist and she will make appointments with walk ins for counselling and assist students with research, Cv’s, bursary applications and applications to educational institutions.
Our biggest challenge at the moment is finding R900 000.00 to build the resource centre.
Our numbers have grown in the different services and we are now servicing over 120 chilren. Soon to be boosted by the new intake of golfers. Our 5 matric boys we mentored are still helping by giving back to the NPO. They are working in the holiday programmes that is attended by over 200 children daily and earning a stipend. They are responsible for keeping these kids off the streets in the holidays. They help with coaching and umpiring baseball and keep the database/admin and fees up to date at karate. They also earn a stipend as camp leaders for the little ones during the school holidays. We as an NPO are constantly trying to find work for these boys and are busy putting them through their learners licence. We have taken them through a first aid course and a level 0 baseball coaching course. They can now proudly add these certificates to their CVs which we have drawn up for them. We had 13 baseball boys called back to try out for Western Province one boy in our under 15 team made the Western Province team and we are super proud of his achievements. We have an exciting year ahead which will take the efforts of every volunteer.
Thanks to the parents, volunteers, coaches, managers, scorers for working tirelessly without expecting anything in return. We are truly blessed to have this calibre of people whose heart is in this community of Ocean View to change the lives of the children and to give hope and opportunity. May God bless you for all you do as He sees everything and will reward you.
A huge thank you to our donors who believe in what we do and offer their financial assistance. Without your financial help we will not be able to carry out our duties. Thank you and God Bless you.
