We had an excellent season with parents coming on board to assist with coaching and managing the teams. The parents also assisted us with fundraising for equipment and transport.

Having ended up in the top half in under 10, under 12, and under 15 was a great achievement. Transport is still the killer and remains a challenge as the number of children increase. Transport out of Ocean View can cost up to R1 500.00 a round trip and we need about 3 vans to get our children to games. We have been lucky as some of the parents have come on board to assist with getting us the transport. Our home games have been fun and successful as we all pitched in to get the fields ready, score games, umpire games and get the kitchen ready for food sales.

Our presentation at the end of the season in April was a wonderful event. The children played a paintball game while the parents and coaches braaied boerewors for after the game. After they ate the children were given medals for participating in the baseball season. They were rewarded not only for their baseball skills but for their commitment to the baseball and their team. When the season starts in September we will add an additional team as our under 15 players will be moving up to under 18.

Baseball is more than just a game. It has many positive outcomes.

  • Good communication platform
  • Gender transformative
  • Teaches commitment
  • Engaging
  • Physical
  • Empowering
  • Builds relationships
